Former abattoir will go to 'whoever offers best usage'

PREFERENCE for use of the former slaughterhouse will be given to those who offer 'the best usage in terms of space, rent and added value', Treasury and Resources has said.

The property is now back on the market after the Arts and Islands Foundation pulled its art gallery and Chinese junk project.

Treasury said States Property Services had already notified local agents that it was available for rent.

The soon-to-be homeless Guernsey Sea Cadets had held positive talks with the foundation over the possibility of sharing the facility.

However, Lieutenant Paul Mooney, commanding officer of the unit, TS Sarnia, said the position now was that they would still be homeless by March if they do not find new premises.
