A CONSERVATION space will be created at Icart headland if planners agree.

If they do, La Societe Guernesiaise's newly-established conservation herd will graze there to manage the bio-diversity of the site.

The application was made by the Environmental Services Unit and an Environment Department spokeswoman said the land was owned by it, La Societe and some private land owners.

The project, at a cost of under £1,000, would improve the area, she added.

The 2010 Guernsey Habitat Survey confirmed the field was mostly dry grassland, a locally rare habitat, the spokeswoman said, which supports a high number of indigenous plants and grasses.

Stockman of the conservation herd Julia Henney said the four steers would rotate around some 16 or 20 sites next year.
