In a letter to the Guernsey Press, consultant orthopaedic surgeon David Pring has warned that providing secondary health care to the island's population in complete isolation was no longer 'medically viable' and consultants should instead become integrated into a UK 'centre of excellence'.

Mr Pring, who left his position at the Medical Specialist Group last year, said that while the concept might not appeal immediately to islanders, the radical partnership could achieve better results for patients and bring costs down.
