The department has submitted a planning application for four bollards to seal off the Salerie Corner junction, where the fatal crash happened.

The rider died after a lorry turned across the cycle path into the car park shortly after 8.30am on 26 April last year.

The driver was cleared of any culpability.

Since the incident, additional warning signs have been installed at the junction.

The scheme, which also includes a pedestrian walkway, aims to further improve safety for pedestrians and cyclists, but will result in the loss of 22 car parking spaces.

Backing for the new bollards has come from Guernsey Police Traffic Sergeant John Tostevin who said that, sadly, some motorists were still flouting the warnings and ignoring the signs.

'This will stop vehicles – lorries and cars – from using the junction as a short cut and putting pedestrians and cyclists in danger,' he said.
