We acted honestly in States pensions talks, say unions

UNIONS have always acted 'openly, transparently and never underhand' in the States pension negotiations, the Unite the Union regional officer has said.

Bob Lanning, pictured, also said that it was time for both sides in the long-running dispute to continue to talk, rather than engaging in a war of words and heading into a potentially costly legal battle.

'It is not the time for the States to attack the unions or for the unions to attack the States,' he said.

'It is a time to start building some dialogue, before a long drawn out process that costs a fortune.'

Mr Lanning was among the union representatives who responded to comments by the Policy Council's lead negotiator and Deputy Chief Minister Allister Langlois in a Guernsey Press letter, including claims that there were three parties in the negotiations.
