All seats were taken on what was the 70th anniversary of the liberation of the Auschwitz-Birkenau concentration camp where more than a million people, mostly Jewish, perished during the Second World War.

Priest in charge of the Town Church, the Very Rev. John Guille, told the interfaith service that the day had been set aside to remember victims of the Holocaust, to reflect upon those affected by more recent atrocities, and to pledge to work together to educate all people about the dangers of anti-Semitism, racism, and all forms of discrimination.

Bailiff Sir Richard Collas and Chief Minister Deputy Jonathan Le Tocq were among those who gave readings.
