Bridge2 founder overwhelmed by generosity of islanders

ISLANDERS' generosity and humility 'makes me want to cry', charity campaigner Sarah Griffith declared, as hundreds of portions of Nepalese curry were served on Saturday to help those caught in the Nepal earthquake devastation.

With the death toll already topping 6,000, Bridge2 founder Ms Griffith said the people of Guernsey had broken all previous records, raising £52,000 in just five days, ahead of Saturday's Nosh4Nepal.

She is due to travel out of Nepal a week today (May 11) with a team to help support the devastated communities, but had been overwhelmed by Guernsey's reaction to her Bridge2Nepal earthquake appeal.

'They are so generous it makes me want to cry,' said the Guernsey Press Ambassador of the Year. 'The messages we have had from people have been fabulous. You could write a book about it. It is just the humility.

'This is just five days. I think it is the quickest it has ever gone up and is an average of nearly £11,000 a day, without any of today's money.'

At the Town Church, volunteers helped to serve the curry and cakes during the Nosh4Nepal fundraiser, which was the brainchild of Sueco chef Matthias Besser, aided by donated ingredients from suppliers.
