The incident happened just after 3pm on Thursday at Cobo Food Hall. Manager Andrew Kalmikov said the business was doing all they could to track down the woman.

'This has never happened before,' he said.

'We want to give the money back and make their day.'

The woman came into the shop with another younger woman and purchased ice-creams. She already had the winning Golden Fortune ticket, which she passed over to the cashier and asked for £5.

The money was handed over and the customers left. It was only an hour later that it was discovered that the winner had not scratched off the ticket fully, meaning the two zeros after the five were still hidden.

Mr Kalmikov said staff looked for the women on the beach and the next day they asked staff at the Cobo Bay Hotel if they recognised the people, but without success.

The CCTV footage, pictured, shows the winner was blonde and was wearing a blue top, black and white shorts and sandals, and was carrying a black and white bag.

The younger companion was also blonde, and was wearing a light blue top and denim shorts
