Guernsey clears its name as EU reviews 'black list'

THE EU Commission has now confirmed that Guernsey is not on a tax 'black list'.

It follows the shock announcement in mid-June that the island was one of 30 'non-cooperative' non-EU jurisdictions on tax.

Guernsey has since then been lobbying to be removed from the list.

Talks in Brussels at the end of last week have culminated with the confirmation that the EU Commission did not see the list as a 'black list' and that it has changed its name to reflect that.

It is now titled a 'tax good governance in the world as seen by EU countries' list.

Brussels also confirmed it should not be used as a black list by any organisation and that the island is viewed by the Commission as co-operative.

'This is a very important development, and it demonstrates the value of the approach that we have taken to work with the EU Commission on this,' said Chief Minister Jonathan Le Tocq.
