James Elliot said that when he had entered the room the defendant had jumped to his feet, while the woman appeared to still be asleep.

He said he had given the defendant a minute to leave the room.

The defendant told him that he had made a mistake and done a really bad thing.

The witness said he decided he would not involve the police until he had spoken to the woman in the morning.

A 22-year-old man denies raping a 25-year-old woman in staff accommodation at St Pierre Park Hotel in the early hours of 3 January.

Neither party worked for the hotel.
