Land plan will span two different boards

PROPOSALS for a new land plan, which will affect all future developments, will be finalised by the existing Environment Department board, but its successor will have to present the report to the new States.

Public hearings on the Island Development Plan have finished, with the two inspectors hoping to return their report, with any recommendations for changes, in February.

Environment then has to decide whether to take those on board or reject them before going to the Assembly for its approval.

However, the inspectors' report will be received just weeks before the general election in April and long past the January deadline for the Billet d'Etat for the final meeting of this States in March.

An Environment spokesman confirmed the deadline was too tight.

'Although there will clearly still be much to do following receipt of the inspectors' report, it is anticipated that will be considered by the current Environment board and the department will aim to finalise the States policy letter prior to the elections in May,' he said.

'It is also anticipated that the Island Development Plan will be presented to the States for adoption in mid-2016.'

That means that a new Environment board will be presenting its predecessors' decision, regardless of their own views.
