OFFSHORE survey work on the proposed route of an electricity cable that would link Alderney with France and Britain has been completed.

Alderney Renewable Energy director Declan Gaudion said two ships had been used for the offshore geotechnical survey and a smaller barge-type vessel was expected in the next couple of weeks to survey the shallower waters near to the coast.

'We are looking to establish preferred routes for the cable which will go out to consultation this summer,' he said.

'Once the consultation is complete a planning application will be made.'

ARE has signed a deal with tidal technology company OpenHydro that aims to see a 150-turbine tidal power project set up off Alderney before 2020.
