Deputy's 11th hour attempt to resolve L'Ancresse row

HAVING battled for almost a decade to get an agreement with the Vale Commons Council, golf official Patrick McKeary hopes he is finally seeing the end of the long negotiations over a new lease for the sport at L'Ancresse.

Deputy Matt Fallaize, one of the Vale deputies acting as mediators between the parties, held separate meetings with the golf clubs and the council on Monday (1 feb)and last night (tues 2)to try to agree on a set of proposals and avoid the issue being effectively decided by a States vote.

A deadline of the end of this month has been set for a negotiated deal.

If that fails, Culture and Leisure will take a proposal to the Assembly in March that authorisation of all games, including golf, and entertainment on L'Ancresse Common would be done by the States.
