Former 'truckie' is new estate manager

HERM has a new estate manager.

Brett Moore has worked on the island for 11 years and knows the estate well, so this is a natural step forward for him and a challenge he is looking forward to.

Brett arrived on the island in 2005 as a 'truckie' – one of the quad bike and tractor drivers who are the lifeblood of the business, moving everything from one place to another, meeting boats and maintaining the land.

He was actually trained as a gardener, having worked at Webbs of Wychbold for 15 years since he was a young teenager, so when the assistant gardener left in December 2005 he took the position immediately.

Exactly a year later, the head gardener also left and Brett was promoted again.

After 10 years as the island's gardener, the position of estate manager expands that role and offers new responsibilities and new challenges.

Brett is now in charge of the truckies, the gardeners, guest arrivals and departures, cargoes, maintaining the roads and fields and the estate in general, looking after the cows, waste management and most other outdoor jobs on the island.
