'Everyone should be involved in the future of Guernsey'

BUSINESSES should offer flexibility so people working for them can consider standing in the general election, Chamber of Commerce vice-president Martyn Dorey said.

Mr Dorey, pictured, said he would like to see more people put their names forward as candidates, in a drive to see more of the community represented. This included the need to get more women involved in politics.

He said the biggest issue that needed to be addressed was cyber-bullying and abuse facing politicians through social media – with online comments also capable of damaging business in the island.

Mr Dorey, speaking at a press conference yesterday, said it was up to everyone to be 'involved in the future of Guernsey' and he would encourage businesses to try to be flexible if someone in their workforce wanted to stand for election in April.
