A KNOT-TYING lesson from the Duke of York was a highlight for Sea Cadets during yesterday's Royal visit.

His Royal Highness paid a flying visit to Alderney and Guernsey, after his previously scheduled tour in July was cancelled because of thick fog.

In his capacity as Admiral of Sea Cadets Corps, Prince Andrew visited Castle Cornet to meet members of the local unit, TS Sarnia, and presented them with 20 badges.

Lieutenant Tom Browning said it was an honour having Prince Andrew present such badges.

'He does take his role as Admiral very seriously.

'He has visited us at least three times before, but it is rare for a member of the Royal family to hand out badges, and it will be something the cadets will remember.

'This helps highlight our profile locally.

'We do a lot in the island and a lot of the time people do not know who we are.'
