St Peter's resident traps six ferrets after two chickens killed

FERRET attacks have spread yet again – this time with a chicken owner on the edge of St Peter's reporting them.

Kevin Smith said two of his chickens were killed towards the end of last week and, as a result, he decided to set some ferret traps, following recent reports of a spate of killings.

Mr Smith had issues with dogs killing his chickens several years ago, the worst attack of which saw 15 killed.

'I put a fence around my field, which cost me thousands.

'My son then picks them up, takes them to a pest controller who deals with them, and then takes them to the States vet, who scans them to see if they are micro-chipped. It really looks like the ferret problem is island-wide.

'They must be breeding in the wild.'
