Construction down by 3%, survey shows
BIG projects are on the horizon, but for now the construction industry is subdued, the sector's representative body has said.
The Quarterly Economic Overview showed employment and earnings in the sector was down by roughly 3% year-on-year.
Guernsey Construction Industry Forum chairman Eric Legg said it had been created to try to iron out any peaks and troughs the industry was likely to experience, but this aim had not been achieved.
Recent approval for the massive Leale's Yard and Admiral Park projects – with a combined price tag of some £170m. – would do much to reverse the downward trend the industry had experienced recently, he said, but these would not come to fruition yet.
'It is still very slow, the Guernsey Housing Association is still in the planning stages for its developments, and Leale's Yard and Admiral Park are still a few years from construction,' he said.
