The National Trust of Guernsey has received permission to go ahead with work to turn the loophole tower, one of 15 local pre-Martello towers, into a short-term visitor rental for two people.

Under the approved proposals, a wet room-style bathroom will be installed in the basement, a kitchenette with dining and storage space on the ground floor and a bedroom and living area on the first floor.

Guests will be able to take in the views of the bay from the top of the tower, which originally served as a firing deck and lookout position.

Trust president Tony Spruce said the plans were still subject to fundraising, with a campaign set to be launched in the spring.
