AN EFFORT to return St Julian's Avenue to its tree-lined heyday is to be made by Guernsey Trees For Life.

In its previous incarnation as The Men of The Trees, the group began looking at how to replace trees that had been removed over the years.

Now it is planning to contact States and parish authorities as well as the St Peter Port Floral Group with a view to getting the empty spaces filled once more.

'We're hoping to approach them and get our heads together and try and formulate a plan to try and replace trees that have been lost or removed,' said group chairman Chris Stonebridge.

The ideal and most cost-effective solution, he said, would be to replace the lost trees with the London Plane variety, since they are well-suited to urban environments.
