Chantal Lee Rautenbach, from the Guernsey Hamper Company, asked for help on social media earlier this week.

Some 600 Guernsey biscuits were required by the end of Tuesday, and another 500 by the end of yesterday.

Ms Rautenbach was relieved that the Senners Bakery team had stepped in to help.

‘They have truly saved the day. A huge thank you to Martin and the boys for helping me out, a true testament to Guernsey Together,' she said.

Ms Rautenbach also thanked everybody else that offered help.

Senners Bakery owner Martin Senner said: ‘We had a phone call from Guernsey Hamper Company needing some help. It was a case of “Why not?” for us.’

‘The boys have been working long and hard to make 1,100 Guernsey biscuits for the hampers. It’s not easy but it could be done.

‘It’s been a busy couple of days with the bank holidays and we’ve had lots of gache being sold for Liberation Day,’ he said.

He said that the bakery usually made Guernsey biscuits every day, but not on the scale needed for the Liberation hampers.

The hampers were designed to replicate the original Red Cross food packages delivered to islanders in the latter days of the Occupation, though these hampers contain Guernsey dairy products, sweet treats and Guernsey biscuits, and a replica ration card.
