Rok Construct (2017) is part of the Rok Group of companies.

The group was founded in Jersey in 2007 and has grown to become one of the island’s leading construction companies.

Removing asbestos from the Les Ozouets site, which has been boarded up for the past 12 months, is part of the process, which is scheduled to take 16 weeks.

‘Awarding this contract is a significant step as we progress plans to build new and much-needed facilities for The Guernsey Institute and lay the foundations for the new Sixth Form Centre, agreed by the States in January as the first phase of the construction of our new post-16 campus at Lez Ozouets,’ said director of education Nick Hynes, who is also the senior responsible officer for the transforming education programme.

‘We’re pleased to have appointed Rok Construct (2017) to carry out this work as it offered a highly competitive tender which offered the best value for money and shortest mobilisation time, alongside proven specialist experience of asbestos removal and demolition.’

It is part of the programme of work agreed by the States to redevelop the site, with The Guernsey Institute facilities being built in Phase 1 alongside the laying of the foundations for a new Sixth Form Centre.

A tender process is now under way to find a construction partner for the build of the new facilities, which it is hoped will start at the beginning of next year.

The current target date for the opening of The Guernsey Institute’s new facilities at Les Ozouets is early 2027.
