Watson reaches main draw at French Open

GUERNSEY'S Heather Watson lived up to her second seed billing in qualifying at the French Open to progress to the main draw today.

The 22-year-old beat 18-year-old Estonian Anett Kontaveit 6-1, 6-1 in the third round of qualifying at Roland Garros this morning to book her place in the main draw, which will get under way tomorrow in Paris, with the first round being held over the first three days of the tournament.

She will face a tough obstacle in the first round in Barbora Zahlavova Strycova, the world No. 63.

That match will take place either Monday or Tuesday.
