The Green Lions fell 2-0 behind early to visiting Chipstead, but fought back to level it through McGrath and an own goal.

And McGrath won it in the 81st minute to lift GFC up to 16th in the Ryman South table and, crucially, six points clear of the relegation zone.

Indeed, the competitiveness of the league is such that they are still only 10 points off the play-off spots, with a number of the top sides dropping points over the weekend.

But that didn't concern GFC manager Tony Vance, who was just delighted to see his own side end a dreadful run of form that had seen five straight defeats.

'We deserved to win that today and, pleasingly, we proved to everybody that we were up for a fight and a battle,' he said.
