GFC would be vetoed now

NEARLY four seasons on from their formation, Henry Davey believes that if local Priaulx League clubs were asked again, they probably would not vote for Guernsey FC to be affiliated.

Speaking in an exclusive wide-ranging and frank interview, the St Martin's president believes that the Green Lions' formation in 2011 was the biggest landscape change in his footballing life – which stretches back more than 50 years.

Former Muratti striker Davey, who is now 67, says he is not anti-GFC, but that some things could and should have been handled differently.

'If the local GFA clubs knew then what they know now, I don't think that they would have voted for GFC to be formed and to go ahead to apply to the FA,' he said.

'There were numerous things promised to us as clubs in those meetings that have quite simply not happened at all.

'One of them was that every GFA club would have a member on the Guernsey FC committee, which hasn't happened.

'I am not against GFC at all and certainly not against the players, but the club must accept that they have hit local clubs extremely hard.'
