Late equaliser denies Green Lions
A DRAMATIC injury-time Phoenix Sports equaliser denied Guernsey FC an FA Cup triumph and ensured the sides do battle again on Wednesday evening in a preliminary-round replay.
Having come from behind to lead 2-1 thanks to a Ross Allen brace, the Green Lions conceded in the first of four additional minutes to deny them victory in a game that for long spells, they dominated.
Yacine Gnahore's header got Phoenix out of jail, though, with the sides now meeting again on Wednesday in Lewes, with the winner then hosting Lewes in the first qualifying round.
The replay on neutral soil comes despite Phoenix wanting to come to Guernsey. But strict FA rules concerning GFC prevent that from happening and insist it must be played in the UK.
