GUERNSEY have no plans to follow in Jersey's footsteps and attempt to earn Uefa membership.

It was announced on Thursday that, after long consideration, the Jersey Football Association have formally applied to become a recognised nation with European football's governing body.

If they are accepted, it would mean their representative side entering European Championship qualifiers, while their club sides would be eligible to compete in the Champions League and Europa League competitions.

But the Guernsey Football Association chairman Chris Schofield says there is no need whatsoever to look at Uefa.

'We will watch with interest what Jersey are doing and wish them luck, but it will be no more than a watching brief,' he said.

'They clearly think that is the right route to take, but we are happy with the route taken over here with Guernsey FC and there are no plans at all to follow what Jersey have done.'
