SAM COCHRANE says it is time for a fresh start both for him and Guernsey FC after deciding to stand down as captain after five seasons.

The 30-year-old is still committed to the Green Lions as a player heading into the new season, but being as honest as ever, he gave his reasons for handing on the captain's armband.

'I have been happy with the timing of every big decision I have made in my life and I think I have got this one right as well,' he said.

Cochrane ends his captaincy of club and island after winning three Muratti Vases and the FA National League System Cup, as well as leading in the Uefa Regions Cup and GFC's early successes.
