Sylvans 3, Vale Rec 2

JOE ALVAREZ came off the bench to play the role of super sub to a tee as Sylvans lifted the Rawlinson Cup on a sunny Saturday afternoon at the Track.

Just when Vale Rec had taken the lead 18min. into the second half having fought back from conceding an early goal to the Westerners to go into the half-time break level, Sylvans coach Matt Le Prevost immediately turned to his replacements, brought Alvarez and Jonny Veron into the action and in doing so changed the momentum of the match.

Alvarez's impact was instant, with his first involvement in the game being to bring his side level once more and it was the No. 14 who then delivered the corner into the penalty area from which Sam Murray headed the winner with 20 minutes remaining.

Murray had earlier given his side the lead before a cracker from Paris Pereira saw the sides go in level at the half-time interval, after which Keanu Marsh gave Rec the lead.
