SAM MURRAY was the hat-trick hero as Sylvans became the first local side to inflict defeat upon North this season with a stunning Stranger Cup victory.

With it, the red-and-whites are the first side into the last four of this season's competition, while leaving North in a straight shoot-out with Captain's a week from today.

The result will send ripples of surprise through the local game, but the visitors fully deserved this success against a dreadful North side who looked nothing like the unbeaten Priaulx League leaders they are.

Two quickfire goals after half-time from Murray to complete his treble were the killer blows, after the No. 9 and his team-mate Luke Staples had struck to give Sylvans a 2-0 lead at the break.

North now know that nothing but victory against Captain's seven days from now will be enough.
