WHAT an incredible week for Noah Davy.

It began with victory in the Valentine Cup as part of the Ray Lowe Sporting Foundation Order of Merit Series for junior golfers and ended with him lifting one of the most prestigious prizes in the sport locally, the UV Trophy.

But it was the manner of the 15-year-old’s success in the 72-hole inter-club strokeplay event that left the player himself almost speechless as, playing off 17, he finished a remarkable 20-under-par off handicap at L’Ancresse after nett rounds of 66, 66, 60 and 68.

‘I can’t really explain it. It’s been great – great weather and I’ve just really enjoyed it,’ said the smiling teenager, with an almost disbelieving shake of his head.

‘I had a difficult start to the season, but I’m definitely playing much better now and really enjoying my golf.’

While obviously delighted to start his tournament with back-to-back 66s, the highlight was his brilliant round on Thursday – and he admitted it could have been even better.

‘That was my best score – a 77 gross, with a triple bogey on 16. It was a relief when I got in,’ Davy said.

‘Then 68 in the final round just topped it off,’ he added, revealing also that any late nerves eased once he had played his tee shot into the 18th for the final time.

Meanwhile, Danny Blondel showed exactly why he continues to set the standard locally as he regained the Investec Trophy in style.

Barring a couple of notable exceptions, most of the domestic big guns were in the field for the island’s only 72-hole tournament, which is regarded by many as Guernsey’s strokeplay championship, but none could finish within five shots of the L’Ancresse man who was the only player to finish under-par gross for the week on an aggregate of 277.

Ian Carre won the Stableford competition with 151 points.
