An extraordinary high-octane tie against University of East Anglia at Footes Lane saw the hosts progress, thanks to a 7-4 victory in which there were 11 different scorers.

The Greens will have to work on their ball retention and their short-corner defence in the weeks ahead of the quarter-finals and also the inter-insular, but with their immense fire power, they will be a threat to any opponents at this level.

‘We’ve got top-class midfield players and top-class forwards – that people like Steve Waldrom can’t get into the team at the moment speaks volumes for how good these guys are,’ said Guernsey coach Andy Good.

‘Superb attacking performance and could have scored more... but we scored seven, looked a threat all game, and thoroughly deserved our seven goals to go through.’

Goals from Zak Damarell, Matt Stokes and Tom Cashin had put Guernsey three goals to the good inside 20 minutes, but a reply on the stroke of half-time from the enthusiastic visiting students gave them renewed optimism.

Sam Dawes, Ant Stokes, Sean Donaldson and Tim Ravenscroft joined the goal-scoring party after the turnaround to finally see off the UEA challenge and Good is delighted that his side have another game to look forward to.

‘We’ve had three or four years, or five even, without many games so to get through and be on a run now, leading into the inter-insular as well, is really exciting,’ he said.
