Ahead of contesting the medals over 72 holes on their home course in three weeks’ time, three of the selected quartet finished in the top four of the Investec Trophy with Jeremy Nicolle coming out on top while Jamie Blondel and Tom Pattimore finished third and fourth respectively. Danny Blondel was unavailable for the competition.

‘It’s a big confidence boost going into the Island Games,’ said Nicolle, talking of both his own victory and the team’s showing overall.

‘We are lucky to have played this week and have that knowledge going into the Island Games that we can get the ball around and compete, put some good numbers while the course is probably at the toughest I’ve played it, ever to be honest because it is brutal out there.

‘I think a lot of the players coming over will have a shock when they get out there for their practice rounds and miss fairways by 10 yards and they are chipping out sideways. It is kind of US Open-esque, which is ironic with the event on this week.’

Nicolle's brilliant 66 on the final day saw him lift the Investec Trophy on countback from Bobby Eggo after both finished on a 283 gross aggregate.

Juniors won the other main prizes as Noah Davy retained the UV Trophy in a nett aggregate of 280 while Alex Mills took the Stableford trophy.
