ROUND four of the GVC Downhill Series involved a visit to Herm.

It started as a cloudy day, but the sun broke through for the final runs.

The course started at the rock section above fisherman's cottage and descended through the trees, which gave riders some shelter from the strong winds. It then came out of the trees behind the cottage into the fields through a zig-zag section, marked by stakes, and then turned into the westerly wind towards the costal footpath and over the Relentless table-top jump.

The wind affected the stability over the jump. This and the tight tricky course saw its fair share of spills as riders pushed for the win, but with no injuries other than a few bruised egos and feeling a bit stiff the next day.

John Mapley took another win, very closely followed by Gary Robert and Dan Owen. Mapley still leads the overall series, sponsored by Relentless and Yak Wax, with his nearest rival 100 points behind, or half a win.
