THREE young skaters from the Phoenix Artistic Roller Skating Club returned from a very successful trip to the 2005 British Artistic Championships held in Leicester. Lucy Ozard and Nicholas Bianco joined forces to retain their minor couples' dance championship in which they performed two compulsory dances.

In the country polka, a new dance added to the national syllabus, they demonstrated good speed and

control across the floor and were awarded high sixes for their efforts.

In the waltz that followed, Ozard and Bianco relaxed and showed good edge control and floor coverage and together with great leg lines were given sevens for their enjoyable performance.

The pair were also given the option to compete in the solo dance category and Ozard was first to skate the march and with tidy

footwork and a powerful display of edge control was awarded an array of sevens by the five judges.

This set a very high standard for the remaining competitors to achieve and although the clear favourite from Kent performed admirably, she was pushed into

second by the Guernsey girl, with Bianco taking third place.

In the foxtrot, Ozard performed with real professionalism and gained a second set of mid sevens to score a notable victory and another title for the local skating club. Bianco maintained his position and took bronze overall.

Club colleague Hannah Dyke placed eighth in the elementary dance championships.
