Last week the cases stood at 481. Since, 555 new cases have been identified and 346 people have recovered. There are eight people in hospital with a recent Covid diagnosis.

Jersey Covid cases have also risen, to 941, with the island’s government saying the island is ‘now at the beginning of a further wave’.

Dr Brink said case numbers in the Bailiwick had increased in the last week, which was expected after the half-term break.

‘We are all continuing to adapt to what living responsibly with Covid means in practice and we will see increases and decreases in infection numbers,’ she said.

‘It is also probable that we will see another wave of infection.’

She said that the numbers self-reporting showed that people were continuing to test, and LFTs are still available for community testing.

‘Our current and previous guidance reflects the fact that Covid has not gone away and the need to continue to be vigilant remains in place,’ she added.

‘We continue to need the community to work with us and follow the basic principles and advice we have all become used to. Certainly please stay at home if you test positive.’

Of the 720 current active cases in the Bailiwick, 703 are in Guernsey, 16 are in Alderney and less than 5 are in Sark. 57 are unvaccinated, 12 are partially vaccinated, 123 are fully vaccinated and 527 are fully-vaccinated and boosted.
