Munro wins Sports Commission's top award

YOUTH Olympics swimming gold medallist Miles Munro is the winner of the Guernsey Sports Commission Trophy as outstanding performer of the year for 2014.

The Beau Sejour Barracudas member enjoyed a wonderful season which included that 4x100m freestyle relay gold in Nanjing as part of the Great Britain quartet as well as gold in the same event at the European Junior Championships, where he also broke the British junior record for the 50m freestyle.

Other winners in the 2014 Sporting Achievement Awards included cyclist James McLaughlin and hill climber Sarah Gaudion, who scooped the Richard Burton and Guernsey Brewery salvers respectively, while there was double success for Guernsey Hockey as the island men's squad won the Team Trophy and player-coach Andy Whalley lifted the Dave Dorey Memorial Trophy.
