Bad weekend for league’s top two

BELGRAVES went down for the first time and even St Martin’s dropped points in what proved another intriguing weekend in the race for the FNB Priaulx League championship.

Northerners were on top of their game as they despatched Belgraves 4-1 under the Northfield floodlights on Friday.

It was an outstanding display by Jose Alvarez’s side who were keen to bounce back after their miserable performance six days earlier.

In weather terms this was the calm before the storm and on Saturday, while Sylvans and Alderney were blown off course and were given the go ahead to put their feet up, Vale Rec showed admirable mettle in holding Saints to a goalless draw at the Corbet Field.

Meanwhile, at KGV, it proved a disappointing start for Manzur on their new home ground, going down 2-1 to Rovers.
