RESTAURATEURS and shop owners have been counting the cost of emergency cable repairs that left them without power on one of the busiest days of their year on Saturday.

Several businesses in Lower Pollet suffered the power blackout for up to around three and a half hours, with some receiving only a limit supply for much of the day.

Power was restored at around 4.30pm, but the road, between Le Truchot and the North Plantation, remains closed as Guernsey Electricity continues its repairs.

Among those worst-affected was Le Petit Bistro, which lost around half its takings.

Owner Delphine Pesrin-Auder, pictured, said the restaurant was forced to cook food from the flat above, before the electricity was restored later in the day.

'This is our second busiest day of the year,' she said.

'It just messed up our day and our takings as well.'
