HOTSPOTS for speeding and other traffic offences can now be reported to a new-look Roads Policing Unit as part of a crackdown on offending motorists.

Traffic Sergeant John Tostevin invited the public in Guernsey to report any areas of concern and persistent offending to be tackled by Guernsey Police's new team on the roads.

The eight-strong unit, unveiled yesterday by Guernsey Police, has been created through a re-shuffle of resources and a more 'targeted' approach, with no extra funding being sought as part of the move.

Sergeant Tostevin, who will be running day-to-day operations, said they were responding to an increase in calls from people concerned about traffic offences.

'This unit will have three more officers to deal with traffic-related issues because of the number of calls from the public on this subject,' he said. 'Speeding is one issue, then there is parking in dangerous conditions and driving along footpaths.

'We can target any areas of concern and deal with them effectively.

'If the public have concerns – for example there is speeding in an area at certain times – feel free to phone us.'

Three dog-handlers will be available to the new Roads Policing Unit.
