HEATHER WATSON has beaten a world top-20 player for the first time.

The British No. 1 defeated world No. 12 Flavia Pennetta 6-7 (6), 6-4, 6-2 in the second round of the Aegon International at Devonshire Park in Eastbourne this afternoon. The Italian was the sixth seed in the WTA Premier event.
Watson will face second seed and former Wimbledon champion Petra Kvitova in the quarter-finals.
