MATT LE TISSIER has been unveiled as Guernsey's number one sports star of all-time this lunchtime.

The football legend – who spent all of his professional career at Southampton and won eight caps for England – is back home on the island for the official launch of 'The Big Book of Guernsey Sport'.

The 752-page hard back book by Guernsey Press sports editor Rob Batiste includes the author's all-time top 100 Guernsey sporting heroes and the top ten is revealed for the first time at the book's official launch at Candie Musuem.

No. 2 on the list is Olympic marathon runner Lee Merrien, while his namesake Alison – multiple world champion bowler – makes up the top-three.

Fourth place is motor racing star Andy Priaulx, while number five is Guernsey's first professional footballer Len Duquemin.

The next three places are made up with three female stars who honed their racquet skills at Kings Club, with tennis player Heather Watson at No. 6, and squash players Martine Le Moignan and Lisa Opie joint-seventh.

Ninth is golfer Bobby Eggo and 10th place goes to athlete Percy Hodge, who won gold at the Olympics nearly a century ago.

'It was an incredibly difficult task putting together the complete list of 100', said Big Book of Sport author Rob Batiste.

'Nobody will agree with all 100 and I realise there will be lots of 'I can't believe he or she isn't in' but what the list demonstrates wonderfully is the unbelievable sporting talent this little island has produced over the years.'

The Big Book of Guernsey Sport, sponsored by Ravenscroft, is published and on sale at the end of this month.
