In an exclusive statement handwritten by the 73-year-old from his hospital bedside, the former Guernsey Press Ambassador of the Year (pictured) who was awarded an OBE in 2004 for services to medicine, thanked all those who had helped him.
Mr Allsopp is being treated at the Princess Elizabeth Hospital after suffering multiple injuries in the incident on Vazon coast road on Sunday when his vintage open-top Alvis car was in collision with a Honda Civic. Two other people were also injured in the crash.
The Hope for Guernsey campaigner and fundraiser who was instrumental in setting up the Medical Specialist Group and played an important role in setting up the island-wide specialist health insurance scheme, made history in 2011 when at 70 he became the oldest person in the world to complete the cross-Channel swim.
