Disappearing surnames have long been part of island history and, as Rob Batiste found out, a very long list of jurats proves just that.

Shot out of the sky in 1943 and washed up on Guernsey in 1944, Kenneth Vaughn was one of just two survivors from the USAF bomber they called Speed Ball. His previously unpublished account of this fateful night has now come to light, as Simon De La Rue reports.
