Treasure Island theme an Alderney Week hit

ALDERNEY Week drew to a close at the weekend with a stunning display of fireworks and the perennial Alderney Week favourite, the torchlight parade.

Led by a piper, with Miss Alderney Emma Etheredge lighting the first torch, the atmospheric procession saw attracted hundreds of people to take part in it.more than 1,300 people with torches, while hundreds more followed the parade and lined the street to watch.

People and participant numbers were believed to have been up this year – the number of floats on cavalcade day was, at 14, double that of last year.

Organisers put the success of this year's Alderney Week, the 66th in its history, to its vibrant Treasure Island theme and sunny weather – for the first half of the week at least.

But even rain didn't put off the daft rafters with dozens of entries in the children's and open categories, including a police team.
