Three passengers hurt as Travel Trident hits Cambridge Steps
HERM Travel Trident has apologised after three passengers were injured when one of its vessels hit Cambridge Steps on Sunday.
Managing director Peter Wilcox confirmed the business was working with the Guernsey Harbour Authority which was investigating the incident.
'We would like, as a company, to offer our sincere apologies for what's happened,' he said.
'It's our boat, it's not something we'd do deliberately and it's something that I believe has never happened before – we're a family business that has been running ferries to Herm since 1969. It's one of those unfortunate freak occurrences.'
He added that although the incident was currently under investigation, it appeared at this stage that the collision was because of a mechanical failure.
Normally as the vessel comes in to dock the skipper will engage reverse drive to slow the vessel down. However, Mr Wilcox said that a mechanical issue meant the drive failed, meaning the boat, which was travelling within the harbour's 4knot speed limit, carried on into the steps.
