Cuts to Southampton route may put Flybe licence at risk
FLYBE'S licence to fly between Guernsey and Southampton may be at risk, after it was revealed the airline could have breached conditions to provide a year-round service.
The airline announced on Wednesday plans to scrap weekday services during October and cut back weekend services due to the Guernsey route being uneconomic.
But under the conditions of its licence from the Commerce and Employment Department the airline has to operate at least two flights a day to and from Southampton – morning and evening – for 364 days a year, as well as a triangulating flight via Jersey on weekends and holidays.
A Commerce and Employment spokeswoman said the department could not comment as the issue was being looked into.
Flybe also refused to give an interview or any assurances that the airline was committed to serving the island via Southampton in the long-term.
