Yesterday committee members gathered to watch as contractors J.W Rihoy & Son started knocking down the building.

Colin Guilbert, one of the board directors, said plans for this came about 10 or 12 years ago.

'It adds to the emotion of all those who come up to you and say their children went there for Brownies or Guides. It may be a tatty old building but it means a lot to a lot of people.'

Dan Taylor, project manager from J.W. Rihoy & Son, said work on the roof began last week.
