Guernsey Water admits new sewer failed to stop flooding

A NEW surface water sewer in St Peter Port failed to stop flooding around Le Truchot and the Lower Pollet, Guernsey Water said yesterday.

But following the recent heavy and prolonged rain, the utility revealed that investigations would be carried out to assess the cause of the problems and how to rectify them.

The move comes after businesses in the area fell victim to flooding again earlier in the week and were frustrated that work carried out at the beginning of the year seems to have made little difference.

Manzur Asghar's hairdressing business was flooded for the sixth time. He said the drains outside could not cope with the amount of rainfall and, as a result, water overflowed from drains at the back of the building.

Luna director Alex Lock was left clearing up for the second this year since the bar and adjoining club Fusion was re-opened under new management.
