Police act after no-entry sign is ignored

POLICE stepped in yesterday to prevent drivers ignoring a no-entry sign between Rozel Road and Courtil St Jacques.

At least four fixed-penalty tickets were issued after the force deployed traffic wardens following 'numerous' complaints about drivers and cyclists ignoring the sign at the Green Lanes, St Peter Port.

A spokesman said no entry meant exactly that and that drivers or cyclists who decided to deliberately flout the law would be punished.

The issue was in no way ambiguous, he added.

'There is no excuse for this – the sign is clearly placed in the roadway together with a barrier – drivers/riders are driving around it, in some instances knocking it over as they do so.

'The no-entry is in place to facilitate a one-way traffic flow from St Jacques and for the safety of the roadworks staff.'

Roadworks are due to be completed in the area by the weekend.
